Dave Thompson’s relationship with the camera began early, shaped by curiosity, craft, and a fascination with how images carry meaning. While in college, he contributed photography to the Michigan State University annual, learning to observe moments as they unfolded and translate them into lasting visual narratives. His studies in film at the University of London further refined this perspective, grounding his work in composition, light, and the rhythm of storytelling that continues to influence his approach today.

Through the 1990s, Dave worked behind the scenes of large-scale production, managing national advertising agencies responsible for full-scale, location shoots across North America for a leading motorsports brand. These years immersed him in the choreography of complex shoots, balancing movement, precision and atmosphere, while sharpening his instinct for capturing energy and authenticity in demanding environments.

His career later brought him into an unusual dual role at Deloitte, where he moved fluidly between creative leadership and image-making. Dave documented major events across the country, shaping visual stories for gatherings of thousands. Each year, he photographed large-scale events, editing and crafting cohesive deliverable collections for thousands of attendees. Alongside still photography, he scripted and directed video projects that marked major transitions including welcoming new partners, driving home the vision of leaders at the highest levels of the firm, and visually navigating moments of organizational change.

Thompson Photography grew from this layered experience. Now in its fourteenth year, the studio is rooted in observation, patience, and intent; creating images that feel composed yet human, refined yet unforced. Dave’s work blends a cinematic sensibility with a documentarian’s eye, resulting in photographs that do more than record places and events; they reveal tone, presence, and connection. Whether capturing architecture, spaces, or fleeting moments, Thompson Photography is guided by the belief that the strongest images are the ones that hold their story long after the moment has passed.
